18 Inch Kids Bike with Front Handbrake and Rear Coaster Brake, Basket and Bell, Pink

Fifty inches long and 22 inches across the bars, so it needs real floor space in a garage. The maker's chart sets this pink 18 inch at ages 4 to 8, riders 47 to 59 inches tall, an inseam of 21.5 to 25.5 inches, a saddle from 24 to 28 inches and a 99 lb seat capacity.

The build

Pink over a carbon steel step-through frame, with brown grips, a brown padded saddle and a white basket clipped to the bars. Training wheels are fitted at the rear and unbolt when they are no longer wanted.

The space it takes up

50 inches nose to tail, 22 inches across the bars and 30 to 32.5 inches to the top of the handlebar. The size table gives ages 4 to 8, a rider height of 47 to 59 inches and an inseam of 21.5 to 25.5 inches.

Room to grow into

Four inches on the saddle and two and a half on the bars. Raise the seat in small steps so the rider keeps a toe down at a stop, and never take the post past its minimum insertion mark.

The fittings

A front reflector, a padded PP covered seat, a basket that lifts off and training wheels that come off the rear axle. A reflector helps at dusk, but it only works when a light hits it.

What is on this bike

Saddle 24 to 28 in

The low setting is the one that decides the fit. Measure the inseam against it.

50 inches long

Worth checking against a hallway, a shed door or the back of a car.

Front hand brake

Short lever pull, sized for a child's grip rather than an adult's.

Rear coaster brake

Back pedal to stop, still useful when hands are cold or tired.

Removable training wheels

Two 4 inch stabilisers on the rear axle, off with a spanner.

Front reflector

Fitted from new. Add lights if you ride anywhere near dusk.

Who is this perfect for?

Riders 47 to 59 inches tall

The maker's band for this size. Height and inseam beat the age on the box.

Late starters who still want stabilisers

Training wheels are included even at 18 inches, which is unusual and useful.

Garages with room to spare

At 50 inches long it is a full sized child's bike, not something that tucks behind a door.

What we stand behind

  • The age band, rider height, inseam, saddle height, handlebar height, overall length and 99 lb seat limit are the manufacturer's own published figures.
  • No helmet is included. A helmet belongs on every ride, and eight Canadian provinces have helmet legislation, three of them for riders under 18.
  • This is a bike for supervised riding on paths, driveways and parks, never on a road.
  • No safety certification mark is shown on this size's own listing, so we claim none.
  • Ships from our Canadian or United States warehouse, free shipping over $150, and 14 day returns unused in the original packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Will an 18 inch fit my child?

Measure the inseam. The maker asks for 21.5 to 25.5 inches here, and the saddle only comes down to 24 inches, so a shorter leg will be on tiptoes at a stop.

How much room does it need?

50 inches long and 22 inches across the handlebar once it is built.

Does it come with training wheels?

Yes, two 4 inch training wheels on the rear axle, and they unbolt. They are not on the 20 inch size in the same range.

Which brake works best?

The front hand brake gives the finer control once a child can squeeze it. The rear coaster brake, worked by pedalling backwards, is the backup that always works.

What is left to put together?

The maker states 95 percent pre-assembled. Fit the bars, pedals, basket, bell and training wheels, then check every bolt and the tire pressure.
