The fade, close up and whole

The graphic shows both views at once. From across a room it reads as one soft colour. Up close the flocking is uneven in the way real snow is, with white catching on the upper needles and pink coming through where the coverage thins. That is the point of a graded flock rather than a flat pink tree.

Eight feet against a six foot figure

The manufacturer puts a six foot Santa beside it for scale. Eight feet to the tip, 4.8 ft across the bottom branches, 22 inch stand. Tree guides recommend at least a foot of air between the top of the tree and the ceiling, so plan on a 9 ft ceiling or more once a topper is on.

Four sections and a base that folds flat

The frame comes apart into four pieces plus the base. The hinges keep every branch attached to its pole section, so each piece opens out as you stand it up instead of needing branches hooked on. The crossed base folds, which is what lets an eight foot tree live in a cupboard for eleven months.

Which ornaments hold their own

Gold, deep red and clear glass are what the manufacturer's own photography hangs on it, and they work because they are darker than the tree. Pastels disappear. If you want lights, warm white keeps the pink warm while cool white pushes it towards mauve.

Is the pink the same all the way up?

No. It is a gradient. The crown is white with heavy flocking and the colour deepens towards the bottom branches, which are the longest and the most visible. The manufacturer describes it as snow melting from the top down.

What size room does it suit?

Allow a floor circle of about five feet for the 4.8 ft spread, and a ceiling of at least nine feet so there is room above the tip for a topper. Tree guides advise keeping a foot of clear air above the tree.

Can I put lights on it?

Yes, and you will need to, because none are fitted. Warm white keeps the pink soft and cool white shifts it towards mauve. Health Canada advises choosing a string with a CSA, cUL or cETL mark and switching holiday lights off overnight.

Will it shed flocking on the carpet?

A little, mostly during assembly and decorating. Care guides suggest opening it up over a sheet, shaking it gently before it goes into position, and keeping water and sprays off the branches. Store it somewhere cool, dry and dark, since damp and sunlight are what ruin a flocked finish.
